Hood Canal and the Oympic Mountains
Glacier carved Hood Canal is the only true fjord in the lower 48 states. The canal's salt water depths exceed 600 feet, making it popular for swimming, boating, shrimping, shellfish gathering and scuba diving. Home to the Pacific Coast octopus, largest in the world, Hood Canal forms a natural gateway to the Olympic Mountain range and the Olympic National Park.
More than two million acres of public park and forest lands begin at Hood Canal, and visitors have easy access to some of the nation's most pristine hiking trails amid ancient old growth forest. There is no limit to the outdoor recreational opportunities in this area including: golf, kayaking, fly fishing, salmon fishing, and hiking. There are also many opportunities for fine dining close by.
